Dear (Title) (name),
I have worked for 20 years as a registered nurse in several health facilities and community organizations. Throughout this practice, I have developed a desire to practice in poor communities while giving undeserved care to their members through my medical mission work. It has, therefore, come to a time when I feel that I should fulfil my goal by going into these communities and rendering my services to them.
Clinical preparation and experience of practitioners is very important in areas such as Pediatrics, Women’s health, Adult geriatrics and medical service to all levels of the community. American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2011) notes that most community health workers do not have much resources at their exposure as it is in hospitals where patients pay for the services. NONPF (2002) notes that a practitioner not only needs primary knowledge but also a prior exposure and information to enhance their competencies in specialty areas, especially adult, family, gerontological, pediatric and women’s health. Geriatric care is critical since old people have may develop numerous health complications that require special care. Pediatric and women’s health is also delicate since these two groups are predisposed to more diseases compared to adult males. The class will help me understand the special needs of each group and prepare for challenges that come with these needs.
According to National Governors Association (2013), primary care nursing service providers are overstretched in the United States. This overstretching is likely to widen due to the growing aging population and passing of the Affordable care Act. Sufficient clinical preparation of inductees into the service is has a significant effect on improving the quality of Medicare provided and full utilization of these personnel (NONPF, 2002). Therefore, I hope that my inclusion in the FNP clinical preparation class will help overcome these challenges and meet the expectations of the society and country as stipulated in the Affordable care Act.
